How to measure your bra size at home
6 Oct 2026
Two simple measurements with a soft tape are all you need. Here is how to take them, work out your size and check the fit.
Many women wear the wrong bra size without realising it. A well-fitting bra feels comfortable all day, gives proper support and looks smoother under clothes. The good news is that you can measure yourself at home in a couple of minutes with a soft measuring tape.
What you need
- A soft measuring tape, the kind used for sewing.
- A mirror, so you can check the tape stays level.
- A non-padded bra, or no bra, for the most accurate bust measurement.
Step 1: Measure your underbust
Wrap the tape around your ribcage, directly under your bust. Keep it snug and level all the way round, and breathe out normally. Note the number in inches or centimetres.
Step 2: Measure your bust
Now measure around the fullest part of your bust. Keep the tape level but not tight, so it rests on your body without pressing in.
Step 3: Work out your size
Your band size comes from your underbust measurement, and your cup size comes from the difference between your bust and your band. Our bra size calculator does the maths for you and also suggests sister sizes to try.
Signs your bra fits well
- The band sits level all the way round and does not ride up at the back.
- The cups are smooth, with no gaps and no spilling over.
- The straps stay in place without digging into your shoulders.
- The centre of the bra sits close to your body.
Fit varies by brand and style
Your measurements are a starting point. Different brands and styles can fit a little differently, so it is always worth trying a few. Visit us in Gota and we will happily help you find the right size.
